COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS $10,000 GRANTS

Updated: Nov 5, 2021

The Community Foundation announced grants to two organizations from the Jo Daviess County Future Fund. The grants awarded this year went to Cats Care and The Workshop and total $10,000.

“These are the first grants from the Future Fund and we couldn’t be more excited to be able to award grants for projects that can impact our County’s future” said Bridgette Stocks, board chairperson for the Community Foundation.

Two grants were awarded. A $6,000 grant to the Workshop will help fund the expansion of The Workshop Community Meal Program to additional communities in Jo Daviess County. “We have seen the demand for this program grow and grow during the pandemic, so many seniors and families need healthy meals,” said Cindy Foley, The Workshop Community Outreach Director. “This grant will help us build our capacity to meet the need in additional communities.” Meals will begin to be delivered in more communities, this week.

Meanwhile, a $4000 grant to Cats Care at River Ridge will help provide food for River Ridge students on the weekends. Students will be provided food from the River Bend Foodbank which meets their nutritional needs. “Many of the students we will serve families who struggle to make ends meet at home but don’t qualify for services from government programs,” says Tammy Smith, president of Cats Care and Special Education Teacher at River Ridge.

Growing the Jo Daviess County Future Fund is a key focus of the Community Foundation. “It’s a fund designed to meet the needs of the community for the long-term,” says Eric Dregne, Community Foundation president, “In 10 or 20 years we can grow the fund to respond to new needs or help launch a bold new project in the county. We’ll be able to do that by investing in the fund today.”
